Below is a breakdown of the requirements for obtaining a Class K Permit in Kenya.

Qualifications for obtaining a Class K Permit

To qualify to obtain a Class K permit in Kenya, one has to:

  • Annual Assured Income: One has to have an annual assured income of at least USD.24,000/= derived from sources outside of Kenya, for instance pensions, investments or other income from legitimate sources;
  • Age requirement: It is required that the applicant should be at least 35 years old;
  • Character:It is required that the applicant has to be of good character and a police clearance certificate from their country of origin should be obtained;
  • An applicant should also demonstrate that they shall not engage in any form of business, income generating activities or employment to qualify;
  • The applicants presence in Kenya should also be beneficial to Kenya.
Requirements 
  • Form 25 – duly completed, signed and stamped, which we shall fill on your behalf;
  • two (2) passport size photographs of the applicant;
  • a copy of the applicant’s passport;
  • a letter from the applicant in support of this application, we shall draft this for your execution;
  • Current immigration status i.e. visitor’s pass etc;
  • Copy of any previous passes held;
  • Documentary proof of annual assured income of at least (USD.24,000)
  • Proof of offshore transaction receipt/slip;
  • Bank statement verification form;
  • Tax compliance slip.

Step by step process of obtaining the Class K Permit

  • Lodging the application documents including the duly completed Form 25 to the eFNS portal and paying the processing fees;
  •  Lodging the hard copies of the documents at the Nyayo house;
  • Awaiting processing of the application;
  • Approval of the application;
  • Once approved, the application approval fees are paid and other required documents are uploaded;
  • The permit is then issued.
Government costs involved in obtaining a Class K permit in Kenya
  • Processing fee of Kshs.20,000/=;
  • Permit issuance fee of Kshs.250,000/= per year;
  • Security Bond from an insurance company of Kshs.100,000/=.
