Registration of a Deed Poll in Kenya

To register a Deed poll in Kenya, below are the steps that should be undertaken by the applicant:
Step 1: You shall be required to obtain a letter from your local area chief confirming that he knows you and your residence;
Step 2: Fingerprints: You shall need to visit your nearest center issuing national identification cards to have your fingerprints taken, where you shall fill a form, have your fingerprints taken and await a report for the same within a week;
Step 3: We shall prepare the Deed poll and an affidavit for your execution;
Step 4: We shall then submit the following documents for registration of the Deed poll to the registrar:
- The Letter from the Chief;
- The finger print report;
- Executed and witnessed deed poll and affidavit;
- Affidavit sworn by a person who has known you for more than ten (10) years;
- A copy of your identity card and KRA PIN Certificate;
- Two (2) passport size photographs;
- Birth Certificate;
- Marriage certificate (where applicable);
- Divorce certificate (where applicable);
- Parent’s identity cards.
Step 5: Gazettement: We shall proceed to prepare a gazette notice to have the same gazetted for sixty (60) days to allow for any objections on the same;
Step 6: After lapse of the 60 days, we shall then submit the original gazette notice and your National identity card to facilitate issuance of a new identity card with your new name.
